DUBAI — Dubai has made telecommunications history by launching the Arab world’s first commercial 6G network, achieving real-world data transmission speeds 100 times faster than current 5G technology and positioning the emirate at the global frontier of next-generation connectivity infrastructure.
The network, developed in partnership with leading Asian and European technology companies following a government tender launched 18 months ago, is currently live across a 15-square-kilometre zone in downtown Dubai, with full city-wide coverage expected within three years.
At peak speeds exceeding one terabit per second, the 6G network opens the door to applications that were previously confined to science fiction: real-time holographic communication, instantaneous cloud robotics, seamless augmented reality overlays across entire city districts, and near-zero latency autonomous vehicle coordination at scale.
