As of 1 October 2026: Dubai’s on-street parking now runs through Parkin, a separately listed company rather than RTA directly, and its own fare tables show standard zones charging around AED 4.20 an hour while premium zones jump to AED 6.30 during peak hours, read directly from Parkin’s own parking information page.
Who actually runs Dubai’s public parking now?
Parkin, listed on the Dubai Financial Market, operates Dubai’s roadside and multi-storey public parking under RTA’s regulatory oversight, a structural detail many residents miss since the branding and the underlying authority are now two separate things. Payment runs through the Parkin app, or the older mParking method: sending an SMS or WhatsApp message in the format plate number, space, zone number, space, duration, to 7275.
How much does standard roadside parking actually cost?
A standard zone like Zone A charges a flat AED 4.20 for the first hour regardless of peak or non-peak timing, rising to AED 16.80 for four hours. Premium zones price differently by time of day: Zone AP charges AED 4.20 an hour outside peak hours but AED 6.30 during peak hours, defined as 8am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm. Most zones operate on this 8am-to-10pm charging window, Monday to Saturday, with parking free outside those hours.
Why does one zone cost so much more than the rest?
Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Zone Code E, is a clear outlier: AED 10.50 flat for the first hour, with no peak or non-peak distinction at all, roughly double the standard zone rate regardless of when you park. Zones around major destinations like Burj Khalifa, Business Bay, and Dubai Healthcare City also carry a peak surcharge, AED 4.20 non-peak rising to AED 6.30 at peak times, the same structure as the AP premium zones elsewhere in the city.
What about parking at a mall or in a multi-storey facility?
City Centre Deira gives the first 3 hours free, then climbs steeply: AED 20 for the next hour, AED 40 the hour after, up to AED 150 for 7 hours or more, or a flat AED 350 for a full 24 hours. Mall of the Emirates is slightly more generous with 4 free hours before the same kind of steep climb begins. Multi-storey car parks run on a simpler flat structure: AED 5 plus 5% VAT per hour, or AED 40 plus VAT for a full 24-hour stay, with no peak pricing at all.
What happens with the SMS payment method specifically?
Parkin charges a 30 fils service fee on top of the parking cost for every SMS sent, on top of whatever the telecom operator itself charges. A reminder message arrives 10 minutes before a ticket expires, and extending it for another hour is as simple as replying “Y” to the same number, 7275, though the system automatically recalculates the correct tariff for that extension based on whichever pricing step applies at that time. This SMS method works for Etisalat, du, and Virgin Mobile subscribers in the UAE, and the service specifically warns that sending a malformed message still triggers the service charge even if the parking request itself fails, which is why getting the plate-space-zone-space-duration format exactly right on the first try actually matters.
How does this connect to driving in Dubai more broadly?
Our Dubai plate number transfer guide and Dubai Bus on Demand guide both cover other RTA-adjacent transport costs; parking fees are a separate, often underestimated line item worth factoring into the real cost of driving in Dubai day to day, especially for anyone regularly parking in JLT or near Burj Khalifa during peak hours. Our UAE traffic fines and Salik guide covers what happens if a parking session is never paid at all, since an unpaid parking fine follows the same escalation path as other traffic violations.
What is the short version?
Dubai parking fees run through Parkin, not RTA directly, with standard zones at around AED 4.20 an hour and premium zones jumping to AED 6.30 during peak hours (8-10am and 4-8pm). Jumeirah Lakes Towers charges a flat AED 10.50 an hour with no peak discount at all. Mall parking offers free initial hours before climbing steeply, and multi-storey facilities run a flat AED 5-plus-VAT hourly rate with no peak pricing.
