Abu Dhabi Residential Parking Permit: Mawaqif Fees Explained

Date:

An Abu Dhabi parking permit for residents costs AED 800 for your first vehicle and AED 1,200 for a second, according to TAMM, the emirate’s own government services platform, read directly on 30 September 2026. The same two figures apply whether you are issuing a brand-new permit or renewing an existing one.

How much does a Mawaqif residential parking permit actually cost?

TAMM lists identical pricing for both services:

  • First vehicle: AED 800
  • Second vehicle: AED 1,200

There is no published discount for renewing over issuing fresh, and no published fee for a third vehicle on the same TAMM service page, so if you need more than two permits at one address, confirm directly with the provider before assuming the second-vehicle rate carries over.

Who can actually get one?

The permit is available to the homeowner or tenant at an address, and extends to first or second-degree relatives living in the same residence. That covers parents, children and siblings sharing a home, but not a housemate or extended family outside that relationship.

What documents do you need?

For a new permit, TAMM asks for:

  • Proof of vehicle ownership
  • Your tenancy contract
  • An electricity bill

For a renewal, the list shifts slightly:

  • Emirates ID
  • Vehicle licence
  • Electricity bill

The electricity bill appears on both lists, which makes sense given Abu Dhabi’s parking, tenancy and utility systems are cross-checked against the same address record. If you have just moved and your utility account is still being set up, that step can hold up your parking permit application too.

Who actually runs Mawaqif?

TAMM names Q Mobility as the service provider for both the new and renewal permit services, not a department called “Mawaqif” directly. Mawaqif is the parking system’s public-facing name, the signage you see on the street and the zones where the rules apply, while Q Mobility is the entity actually administering permits and payments behind it.

How do you apply?

Both services follow the same three steps on TAMM:

  1. Log in using UAE PASS
  2. Submit the application and upload the required documents
  3. Pay the fee

TAMM lists processing time as 6 minutes, though it notes costs and timing can vary depending on what is actually submitted. Once issued, the permit lets you park in any standard bay marked for residents in your zone without paying the hourly or daily Mawaqif tariff, provided it is clearly displayed on your dashboard.

What if you are also setting up other paperwork?

A residential parking permit is one more piece of the move-in process in Abu Dhabi, alongside your tenancy registration and utility account, and the paperwork chain runs in a specific order worth knowing before you start. Your tenancy contract has to be registered first, since it is a document requirement for the parking permit itself. Your electricity and water connection then follows automatically from that registration, and the resulting bill becomes the second document the parking permit application checks for. If your electricity and water connection is not active yet, that is worth sorting first: it is both a document requirement here and, separately, now run under the Taqa Distribution brand rather than the old ADDC name. If you are also registering a vehicle for the first time, the Abu Dhabi vehicle registration guide covers that separate process and its own fees, and if you are budgeting for all of this alongside rent, the Abu Dhabi cost of living guide places these smaller fees against the bigger picture.

What happens if you park without one?

Areas reserved for residents are marked with “Resident Permit Only” signage, and they are enforced most strictly overnight: non-permit holders are generally not allowed to use these bays between 9pm and 8am. Park there without a valid, visible permit during restricted hours and you are treated the same as anyone else parking without paying the standard Mawaqif tariff, which means a fine rather than a warning.

What is the short version?

A Mawaqif residential parking permit in Abu Dhabi costs AED 800 for a first vehicle and AED 1,200 for a second, whether you are issuing one fresh or renewing. You need proof of vehicle ownership, your tenancy contract and an electricity bill for a new permit, or your Emirates ID, vehicle licence and electricity bill to renew. Q Mobility administers both services through TAMM, with UAE PASS login and a stated 6-minute process.
